Following other manufacturers, MSI now offers a BIOS feature for Ryzen 3D V-Cache processors, enhancing gaming performance by up to 20%.
MSI has introduced a new “X3D Gaming Mode” feature that boosts gaming performance on single and dual CCD Ryzen 3D V-Cache processors. This mode allows users to disable the other CCD or SMT to enhance performance in games.
Recently, motherboard makers like Gigabyte and ASUS released the latest AGESA 1.2.0.2a BIOS firmware to support the newly launched AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D processor. This phenomenal gaming processor is taking the market by storm, delivering the fastest performance for gamers. While in high demand and already sold out, motherboard partners are rolling out new features to further boost the performance of current and future Ryzen 3D V-Cache processors.
MSI’s “X3D Gaming Mode,” like other manufacturers, can disable the other CCD or SMT to improve gaming performance. This feature mainly benefits dual-die processors like the Ryzen 9 7950X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 9950X3D, though it is also effective on single CCD models.
In tests with pre-release BIOS on a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, paired with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 and running Far Cry 6 at 1080p (Ultra settings), performance improved by 20%. The average frame rate rose from 219 to 263, though performance gains varied by game title—Shadow of The Tomb Raider saw only a 10% improvement.
Currently, MSI’s three latest X870 and X870E motherboards (MEG X870E GODLIKE, MPG X870E Carbon Wi-Fi, MAG X870 Tomahawk Wi-Fi) have the “X3D Gaming Mode” feature enabled. Several BIOS options, including these models, are expected to be officially released next week.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and Ryzen 3D V-Cache processors deliver exceptional gaming performance at the DNA level, and even slight improvements are welcome. It’s great to see vendors offering such new features to further enhance the gaming performance of Ryzen X3D CPUs.
