FUJIFILM is set to release its highly anticipated mirrorless camera, the FUJIFILM X-M5, in November 2024. Weighing just about 355g, this model is the lightest in the X series. Despite its compact size, it offers a wealth of features for capturing both high-quality photos and videos, making it an ideal choice for a wide range of users, from beginners to photography enthusiasts.
The X-M5 boasts a compact and premium design, reminiscent of the FUJIFILM X100VI. The sleek exterior not only enhances its aesthetics but also makes it easy to carry around for everyday use.

Equipped with the same 26.1 MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and the X-Processor 5 found in the FUJIFILM X-S20, the X-M5 delivers exceptional image quality. The camera also features subject detection autofocus that utilizes AI to recognize moving subjects like animals and vehicles. Additionally, the X-M5 supports up to 6.2K/30P video recording, ensuring outstanding video quality for a variety of shooting scenarios.
For video creators, the X-M5 offers strong electronic image stabilization and three built-in microphones to make video recording smooth and stable. The new 9:16 vertical video mode, added to the “Vlog Mode,” makes it easier to shoot content specifically for social media platforms. Furthermore, it supports low-bitrate recording (8Mbps, 25Mbps) to speed up upload times to social media sites.
On the top of the camera, you’ll find both a Film Simulation Dial and a Mode Dial.

The Film Simulation Dial allows users to easily switch between 20 different film-like color expressions, including the latest REALA ACE, enabling even beginners to enjoy FUJIFILM’s rich color rendition with minimal effort.
With its flat-top design and omission of an electronic viewfinder (EVF), the X-M5 achieves a truly compact and lightweight form factor.

The camera measures just 111.9 x 66.6 x 38.0 mm and weighs 355g (including battery and memory card). This makes it an ideal companion for everyday carry and spontaneous photography. The built-in flash has a guide number of approximately 11 (ISO 200/m).
In pursuit of a more compact design, the X-M5 does not include an EVF. While this reduces the camera’s size and weight, it may present challenges when shooting outdoors in bright light, where the LCD monitor’s visibility can be limited. Some reviews suggest that in sunny conditions, increasing the LCD brightness is necessary, which could impact battery life.
However, the fully articulating LCD screen allows for flexible shooting from various angles, making it easier to capture selfies, low-angle shots, and more creative compositions.
The X-M5’s autofocus system supports subject detection for animals, birds, cars, motorcycles, bicycles, planes, and trains, along with face and eye detection. The 3.0-inch vari-angle touchscreen (approximately 1.04 million dots) further enhances ease of use for capturing shots from different perspectives.
